In 2012, a year after earthquakes struck the cities of Sendai and Christchurch, the Sendai Christchurch art exchange was born. The project was initiated to allow artists from Sendai and Christchurch to reflect on the tragic events of recent times, while lending support to one another and ultimately facilitating a revival of arts in both communities.

Stage 1 of the project was held in June 2012 with an exhibition of work from Christchurch artists held in Sendai and Shiogama, Japan. Stage 2 of the project will take work from Sendai to Christchurch, New Zealand in March 2013. This website will share information on the project as it unfolds, and details of participating artists.
